Indian student in Sydney attacked with petrol bomb
Press Trust of India, Friday May 29, 2009, Melbourne
In a fresh attack targeting Indians in Australia, a student suffered up to 30 per cent
burns after a suspected petrol bomb was hurled at him in his home in Sydney.

According to local newspaper for Indian community, South Asia Times, 25-year-old Rajesh Kumar was quickly covered by a blanket by his flatmate after the attack on Thursday, an act
which saved him from further injuries.

Kumar was sitting on his bed in the front room of his rented house when an unknown person threw what neighbours say was a small petrol bomb through his window.

The explosion and subsequent fire left Kumar with burns to a third of his body.

The latest attack came as Shravan Kumar, a 25-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh, was fighting for life in a hospital here after being stabbed by a screwdriver by a group of teens in a weekend attack that also left three of his friends injured.

Doctors have said they were not very optimistic about Kumar's recovery.

Another student Baljinder Singh, stabbed by two attackers with a screwdriver early this week, has been released from hospital on Friday.

A New South Wales Fire Brigades spokesman said Rajesh Kumar's flatmate Arminder Singh did the right thing when he grabbed a blanket and threw it over his friend, helping to extinguish the flames.

"He was crying, on fire. He lay down on the ground and I put the blanket on him," Singh said adding "I told him everything was going to be OK. He was asking: 'Is my face OK?"

Singh, 33, said he was halfway between the laundry and kitchen when he heard the sound of smashing glass and his friend screaming.

He and another flatmate, Chander Mohan, said they saw Kumar run out of his bedroom and out the front door with his back and arms on fire.

Singh and Mohan said the attack was terrifying.

"We could not sleep, we could not eat all night," Singh said.

They had moved into the house with Kumar and two other flatmates in February but were moving out again as soon as possible, Mohan said.

He said Kumar had no enemies and had not been in any trouble.

"We don't know why," Mohan said.

Singh said he had been robbed on the street three times in the past two months.

Safety of Indian Students- Do you think Indian students are safe in their own country. Have you forget, Raj Thakery & his followers. Just go back, to the events of last year, how Raj and his followers beat students like animal in Mumbai. They justified there action in the name of outsider V/s local in the same country but different state. So, there are people like Raj & his followers in Australia also. They are also justifying their action in same logic like Raj (outsider V/s local) where students have different nationality. In my opinion, both, people who are in Australia & India who has this type of mentality should be treated as alike, (racism) and action should be taken against them. But if our central government cannot take action against Raj & his people , does our Government has moral right to ask Australian government for firm action for people like Raj & followers in Australia. Coming to IIT &IIMs, The students from these reputed institutes have all the doors open. They are capable to get good jobs in India and abroad. But they are very few in numbers (1%). The majority of students are from other colleges except ( IIT & IIM).They have look for better opportunity any where in India and abroad. These students become easy target of people like Raj & their followers in India & abroad. The person talking about IIM & IITS should understand that the world not only finish on IIM & IIT gates. The students from these institutes are extra ordinary. But when we speak in general, we should also speak about ordinary students. One more thing can also be said that if you want people to look for job in India, regardless of state, every people should be given right to prove himself particularly for central government jobs & Railways. To end my words, I would like to say that people should look for job in India & abroad .It is not required to put so much stress on IIT & IIM, when some body is talking of studying & job in India & abroad. Even if the National & foreign institutes are not so much reputed, a person has to check what is best for him.

Dont mix patriotrism with ambition and exposure. Indians please dont show how narrow we Indians are in our thinking. World is mixing up fast and boundaries are virtually collapsing. In this age, be a global citizen and dont shout of being an Indian where we people dont care for ones who die on road, we are totally hypocrate and highly competitive where we nvr spare weak and disadvantaged to make fun, exploit or neglect!!!! Be truthful to yourself and open ur eyes and think big at least globally. Dont hide your narrow and crooked hypocrat vision under the umbrella of patriotism.
