Needlessly Being Blamed For Dadri Incident, Intolerance, RSS Says

Rashtriya Swayamswevak Sangh General Secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi was speaking at the organisation's meet in Ranchi.

Ranchi: The Rashtriya Swayamswevak Sangh or RSS is being needlessly blamed for the mob-lynching of a man in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri and similar incidents of violence, General Secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi has said.

"We are in social life for 90 years. No one has raised such questions on intolerance. Whatever has happened we condemn that. Such incidents are not good for the society. But we need go deeper into such incidents. The truth must come out," Mr Joshi said.

"When the Sangh was linked to several such incidents, and we investigated deeper, they have proven to be false. There has been no truth to the allegations. It is a conspiracy to unnecessarily blame the Sangh for such incidents," he said.

On September 28 in Dadri, 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was dragged out of his home by a mob and beaten to death allegedly over rumours that he and his family had eaten beef and slaughtered a calf, triggering a huge outcry.

Many of the men suspected to be in the mob are related to a local BJP leader who however has denied the allegations. The RSS, as the ideological mentor of the BJP, has also come under attack.

Similar incidents of mob violence have also taken place in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir where two men were brutally beaten to death allegedly over rumours of cattle smuggling slaughter.

Dozens of public intellectuals including writers, filmmakers and scientists have spoken out against the incidents, expressing concern at "growing intolerance" in the country and criticising the BJP-led government at the Centre.
