  • Members of all-party Kashmir team attempt to meet Hurriyat for talks
  • Hurriyat's Geelani refused to meet them, members later met Mirwaiz Farooq
  • Members reachout in private capacity, Hurriyat's response not Insaniyat
Srinagar: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today lashed out at Kashmiri separatists for snubbing members of an all-party delegation of Parliamentarians who had tried to meet them on Sunday.

Here are the top 10 developments in this story:

  1. "What the separatists did was neither Kashmiriyat nor Insaniyat (humanity)," the Home Minister said, making it clear that the opposition leaders had tried to meet the Hurriyat Conference in their individual capacity.

  2. He also distanced the centre and his party, the BJP, from ally Mehbooba Mufti's decision to invite separatists for talks with the all-party delegation.

  3. Mr Singh reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir "was, is and will always be an integral part of India".

  4. Mehbooba Mufti had invited the Hurriyat for talks - as the chief of the People's Democratic Party and not Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister it has been emphasised - but the separatists rejected it, also refusing to meet the Left's Sitaram Yechury and four other leaders when they tried to reach out on Sunday.

  5. Hardline separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, 86, refused to allow them into his residence at Srinagar's Hyderpora and his supporters raised anti-India slogans when the MPs visited.

  6. Senior PDP leader and J&K finance minister Haseeb Drabu has attacked Mr Geelani, saying he showed none of the social graces that Kashmiris are known for. "I am not Kashmiri because of Article 370. I am Kashmiri because of my values. Geelani sullied Kashmiriyat," Mr Drabu said.

  7. Rajnath Singh said the 26-member all-party delegation has met more than 300 people since it reached Srinagar, as the leaders attempt to find a solution to the Kashmir crisis.

  8. Kashmir has been crippled by unrest for the last 59 days, with prolonged curfew amid violent protests and clashes in which over 70 people have died and nearly 10,000 have been injured.

  9. The violence broke out on July 8 after 22-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani was killed by security forces.

  10. On Day 2 of its visit today the delegation is meeting civil society leaders, academics and others.
