Finding the right stay for your next trip can often mean scrolling through endless filters and lists - but that might soon change. MakeMyTrip, Indian travel platform, has launched a new AI-powered "Semantic Search" tool designed to make hotel and homestay discovery as easy as having a conversation. The feature allows travellers to describe exactly what they're looking for in natural language - no need to adjust multiple filters or tick boxes. The system understands open-ended requests and returns results tailored to traveller intent.

How To Use AI To Search Hotels

Using this tool, travellers can now type queries like "pet-friendly hotels in Manali with a swimming pool" or "heritage stays near Jaipur forts with parking," and the AI will identify matching properties. The system processes contextual details and displays options complete with visuals, user-generated content, and personalised rankings.

It also offers smart suggestions such as "beachfront hotels in Goa" or "Ooty stays with mountain views," each tagged with helpful reasons like "great for families" or "private pools available."

The idea is to make bookings faster, simpler, and more intuitive for different types of travellers.

Building The Easiest Travel Booking Experience

According to Ankit Khanna, Chief Product Officer at MakeMyTrip, the feature aims to make trip planning feel more natural. "Instead of forcing users to think like a system, we've built a system that understands how people naturally express themselves," he said.

This aligns with the company's broader move toward integrating artificial intelligence in every stage of travel planning.

Meet Myra: The New AI Travel Assistant

Earlier this year, MakeMyTrip also introduced Myra, its GenAI-powered trip planning assistant, currently in Beta. Myra helps users explore destinations, book stays, and even get assistance during and after their trips - all through chat or voice commands. Available in both English and Hindi for now, the company plans to expand Myra's language support to other Indian languages based on user feedback.

AI And Travel: A Step Toward The Future

AI tools like Semantic Search and Myra are part of a growing trend of tech-driven travel experiences, where platforms aim to remove complexity from trip planning. For Indian travellers - whether solo explorers, families, or frequent business flyers - such tools could turn the task of hunting your perfect stay into a fast and easy experience.
