In a major push to boost Ladakh's tourism industry, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Sunday announced plans to develop Siachen - the world's highest battlefield - and Galwan Valley as new tourist destinations. The initiative aims to give visitors a taste of the courage and sacrifice that define these frontier areas, alongside their unmatched natural beauty. Speaking at a felicitation event hosted by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Governor Gupta asserted that Ladakh is "far more beautiful than Switzerland" and has the potential to become one of the most popular travel destinations in the world.

Governor Gupta underlined that his administration is striving to encourage eco-friendly travel, improve connectivity, and upgrade infrastructure with the help of the central government. He also mentioned that he has been entrusted with the role of leading Ladakh UT by the central government, as reported by PTI. "Our vision is to build a sustainable and empowered Ladakh," he added, emphasising the importance of preserving the delicate ecosystem while providing world-class travel experiences.

    The Siachen Glacier is the highest battleground in the world, where Indian and Pakistani troops have long been stationed. It is the highest militarised zone on earth, located in the Karakoram Range at an elevation of about 20,000 feet. Meanwhile, Indian and Chinese troops engaged in violent clashes in Ladakh's Galwan Valley in June 2020. This was the first fatal military confrontation between the two nations since 1975, claiming the lives of at least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers, according to the New Indian Express.
