Lovers' tiff leads to woman committing suicide

Shimoga: A quarrel between a couple on a boating trip at the famous elephant camp at Sakrebyle near Shimoga ended with the woman committing suicide by jumping into the river, police said.

The 21-year old woman and her husband, aged 22, decided to go boating while at the camp. Police quoting locals said they started quarrelling while on the boat. While returning, the lady suddenly jumped into the river and was swept away by the strong currents even as the man and other passengers cried for help.

A search is still on for Roopa's body.

The man also tried to commit suicide by hanging but was prevented from doing so and handed over to the police, they said.
