Hearing in Sankararaman's murder case adjourned to September 6

Puducherry: A local court today adjourned hearing in the Sankararaman murder case to September 6. Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra are the prime accused in the case.

Principal District and Sessions Judge CS Murugan, before whom the hearing had been on, directed that all the 23 accused should be present at the next hearing.

Only 13 accused were present today and the absentees included the two seers.

Sankararaman, Manager in the Varadarajaperumal temple at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu was allegedly murdered on September 3, 2004, in the temple premises and the two seers have been charged under IPC sections of 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder).

Special Public Prosecutor N Devadoss told reporters outside the court that the adjournment became necessary in view of the court boycott by advocates today in response to the call given by the Federation of Advocates of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to condemn the murder of a lawyer in Salem on July 5.
