Army man arrested for killing wife

Pune: The Wanowrie police station officials arrested 30-year-old army personnel for strangling his wife on Saturday morning at army servant quarters in Ghorpadi.

Though the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, the police officials suspect it to be an outcome of a family dispute. The accused was identified as Samadhan Kisanrao Jadhav, posted at the artillery section. The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Pratibha Jadhav.

"Samadhan first strangled his wife at 6 am on Saturday but told neighbours that she slipped in the bathroom and had fallen unconscious. The neighbours rushed her to the AFMC hospital where she was declared dead on arrival," Senior Police Inspector Bajirao Mohite of Wanowrie police station.

Mohite said that based on the autopsy report, which revealed strangulation as the cause of Pratibha's death, Samadhan was arrested.  "He has not confessed to the crime but has been remanded to two days of police custody. Our investigation is on," Mohite said.
