Mumbai: Cops Nab Man Who Left Car Driver to Die for Grazing His Scooter

Poonam Jhawer had been desperately trying to find her brother's killer and had even managed to get the CCTV footage.

Mumbai: Nearly three months after a road rage incident ended in her brother's death, actress Poonam Jhawer is finally convinced that she will get justice, as the police arrested the accused late on Monday evening.

mid-day had earlier highlighted how the Bollywood actress' brother, Kamal Bhuvan (52) died after he was mysteriously found unconscious in his car in Andheri (East) on May 31, but even after more than a month had passed, the cops had not managed to find the culprit.

It was Poonam - who has worked in films such as Mohra (1994) and OMG: Oh My God! (2012) - who got hold of CCTV footage from the area, which revealed that Bhuvan had been involved in a road rage episode at the very spot he was found later.

Cops caught Duble Gatta, who had been fighting with the deceased at the spot, based on this sketch and leads from eyewitnesses.

The tapes showed Bhuvan driving by Rameshwar temple when his car grazed a scooter that the accused, Duble Gatta (24) was riding. According to cops, Bhuvan had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The accused asked Kamal to get out of the car, after which the two got into a heated scuffle.

Kamal took a fall and had trouble getting back up, and the footage showed Gatta pushing him back into the car and then fleeing the spot. The cops suspect that Bhuvan did not regain consciousness as he was drunk, and soon ran out of air in the locked car. Based on the video, the police registered a case of murder on June 17.

A police officer from the Andheri police station said, "With the help of a few local eyewitnesses, we made a sketch of the accused. We even questioned every possible garage owner and mechanic nearby to find out whether any person had gone to get a dent repaired on their scooter.

Finally, we got leads in the case and, based on a tip-off, we picked up the accused, Gatta. Recording of statements and further investigation is on." Cops have not divulged much information about the accused, Gatta, but sources said that the Kandivli resident told the police that he had followed Bhuvan to demand Rs 1,000 in compensation for the damage caused to his scooter.

It was after this that the two got into an argument and things went south. Gatta will be produced in court on Tuesday, and Poonam is confident that she will now get justice for her brother's death.

"I am very happy that the accused has finally been arrested by cops. Now I am convinced that the judiciary will give justice to my brother. The accused should be punished for his actions. I would like to thank mid-day for supporting me," she said.
