Trader shot dead resisting robbers in Meerut

Meerut: Six armed men allegedly shot dead a 35-year-old trader when he tried to stop them from robbing his house, police said today.

The robbers decamped with Rs 2 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh after shooting dead Ashfaq Malik at his residence last night, police said.

One of the accused was nabbed by locals after they hear gunshots from the house, they said.

According to police, the six armed men entered Ashfaq's house around 11 PM last night, locked up the deceased's family members in a room and started robbing the house.

When the trader tried to stop the robbers, one of them shot him in the forehead, family members told the police.

One of the accused, Shahid Ansari, was nabbed by the locals of the area, they said.

Ansari, a resident of Masjid Street, has revealed the names of his accomplices in the crime, police said, adding, search is on to nab the other accused.

Ashfaq was a property dealer and owned a cycle shop in Fatehullah Marg.
