What is Astro-Tourism?

The combination of astronomy and tourism has given birth to a new form of sustainable and responsible travel known as astro-tourism. Astro-tourism is a holistic experience, wherein people can enjoy the celestial bodies. While on an astro-tourism tour, you can indulge in activities like stargazing, special solar observations, astrophotography contests, camping under the stars, and much more. This initiative aims to bring together astronomy enthusiasts, adventurers, and travellers from across the globe to witness the beauty of the cosmos.

What makes Uttarakhand ideal for Astro-Tourism?

Uttarakhand has a large forest cover with nature-based tourism, easy access to all major cities and a well-developed hospitality sector. The campaign will cover dark sky potential sites in districts of Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Chamoli. The campaign aims to advocate for the preservation of dark skies, fostering a community of ambassadors dedicated to promoting dark sky conservation efforts throughout Uttarakhand.
