Although colour blocking has been present since the 60s, (then the 80s and most recently, the late 2010s), it faded into oblivion a few years ago. Being lovers of bright bursts and popping hues, we couldn't wait for a comeback and it looks like our prayers have been answered. In the recent past, B-town's fashionistas have showcased statement-making, colour blocked looks. A resurgence of the much-loved, colourful trend, perhaps? Only time will tell. Like these 8 Bollywood outfits, we're hoping it is one of summer's trendsetting looks.
Trust Kareena Kapoor to take the trend and make it work on a traditional outfit. She pairs a black, pink and red Raw Mango saree with a black blouse for a striking look. Finishing it off is dark eye makeup, a bindi and centre-parted bun.
At an event, Sonam Kapoor stylishly stepped out in a literal colour blocked Benetton dress in white, black, green and pink. Pulling it all together was a black blazer and thigh high boots.
Yami Gautam also tried her hand at the trend when she wore a vertical striped Paula Ke midi dress in pink, black, red and blue. It went wonderfully with her minimal makeup and accessories while keeping all the attention on her outfit.
Frieda Pinto was not far behind as she wore a red, blue and white collared Gucci dress along with strappy sandals and minimal accessories.
Pantsuits have become a Bollywood style staple of late, but Neha Dhupia managed to take it to the next level with some bold colour blocking. She paired a bright red Lavish Alice pantsuit; arms peeking out from below the draped sleeves, with a hot pink tank top, clutch and chunky sandals. This glorious outfit pulled off brilliantly by Neha gets two thumbs up from us.
Shraddha Kapoor too jumped on the colour blocked pantsuit brigade with a fitted red Paula Ke suit and a red, yellow and pink Moschino blouse. She kept the rest of her look subdued with hoop earrings and wavy hair.
Alia Bhatt gave us a taste of colour blocking by pairing blue and orange trousers with a blue ruffled crop top, matching sling bag and red shoes. Just the hints of colour here and there makes it an ideal look to try out.
Kriti Sanon too attempted the trend with sequined colour blocked dress in pink, gold, green and blue. Over this, she wore a ripped denim skirt and sneakers with loose waves in her hair.
