Of all the hill stations in India, Ooty is one of the greenest travel destinations. Just like Munnar, Kodaikanal, and other hill stations of South India, Ooty boasts of lines and lines of trees, perennially full lakes, and hills that are lush with greenery. That's one of the biggest differences between the hill stations of North India and the ones in South India. And the hill station has a lot to offer apart from the touristy things (such as a boat ride in Ooty lake). Here are the things you should definitely not miss doing in Ooty.

Trek to Doddabetta
The highest point in the Nilgiri mountains, trekking to Doddabetta will bring you some of the prettiest sights. From winding roads to tall trees that have bent with age to make a tunnel over the way, to clouds greeting you, everything you see promises to leave you marvelling.
Drive to see the Avalanche and the Emerald Lake
Unlike the main Ooty lake, these two lakes are a little away from the hill station and need you to take a long drive to see them (or a very long trek). But either way, we assure you that it will be totally worth it. Two isolated lakes, a little away from each other, both promising tranquillity and peace of mind. Isn't that the whole idea of a chill vacation?

Food walk
While exploring Ooty, we came across a few mainstream places, like Hyderabad Biryani House and Shinkow's, that offered great food. But if you want a curated experience, head to places like King's Cliff (for an elegant, classy setting and great food) or Royal Cafe, with its classic colonial hangover decor that will make you feel like you are in some high-end restaurant. At Royal, try the lemon butter fish, and the hot chocolate. And whatever you do, don't forget to try a lot of chocolates at Moddy's Bakery.

Take the toy train
You know how we said that you will see some wonderful sights when you trek to Doddabetta? Well, those sights are nothing compared to what you will see when you take the toy train from Ooty to Coonoor, or to Mettupalayam. Trust me, it is an experience of a lifetime. Clouds that enter the train, waterfalls that meet the river, and much more.
