Kozhikode: The eight Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials, arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a 44-year-old CISF trooper, were on Saturday sent to judicial custody by a court in Malappuram.

They were arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for the death of CISF trooper AS Yadav in a brawl at Kozhikode airport on Wednesday night.

Those arrested, were on Saturday afternoon produced before a magistrate in Manjeri in Malappuram district, who remanded them to judicial custody till June 27.

CCTV footage accessed by NDTV showed a group of AAI staff surrounding two CISF jawans, roughing up one and chasing him. At that point, a gunshot is heard, which, police say, led to the death of the jawan.

The CCTV footage shows the AAI staff run out of the gate in panic after the incident.

Armed CISF personnel were soon seen creating pandemonium at the airport after the death of their colleague. It took almost three hours to diffuse the situation and disarm them, the Kerala Police had told NDTV.

Senior CISF officials, however, had denied the involvement of any of their personnel in the rampage.
Meanwhile, Fire and Safety personnel were seen blocking the runway with two of their trucks.

Kozhikode airport ceased to be operational for nearly 10 hours till Thursday morning.
