In a shocking incident, a speeding transport bus ploughed into passengers waiting at a bus stand in Karnataka's Haveri on Wednesday morning, leaving a two-year-old child and three others injured.
The accident took place around 7 am at the central bus stand when people were standing on the platform checking the destination board of an incoming bus.
The injured toddler, identified as Hazrat Ali (2) from Savanur, suffered serious injuries to his knee. He was given first aid before being shifted to KIMS Hospital, Hubballi, for advanced treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
The other injured have been identified as Vasudev (44), Harsha (6), and Kavyanjali (39), all residents of Bankapur. They are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the non-stop bus travelling from Haveri to Lakshmeshwar entered the bus stand at high speed and rammed into the platform.
The impact triggered panic at the busy bus station, with injured victims rushed to hospital by ambulance.
The bus driver reportedly fled the spot after the accident.
Police have registered a case at the Haveri Town Police Station and launched an investigation to determine whether the crash was caused by driver negligence or a technical fault.
