Swine flu scare in Jaipur; cases double overnight

Jaipur: With swine flu patients in Jaipur doubling over night, there is a swine flu scare in the city. Of the 61 cases that went in for testing on Thursday, 41 tested positive, and of these 20 were students from the Sawai Mansingh School in Jaipur.

The school has been shut, but parents in other schools are worried. The chief minister held a high-level meeting to review the situation on Friday and the health department says a decision to close down schools may be taken on Sunday if numbers go up further.

"I have given a note to teachers to look out for children with cough and cold. We have stopped assembly and I have sent an SMS to all parents not to send children with cold and cough to school," said Rama Dutt, principal, Sanskar school.

Some schools have also called in doctors to carry out random health checks.

"We are reviewing the situation and we may have to take the decision to shut down schools. Yes I don't rule it out," said Rajasthan Health Minister Duru Mian.

But what's worrying for Jaipuriites is the sudden increase in the number of people testing positive. In one day alone the numbers of those with swine flu doubled in the city.
