In West Bengal, a departmental probe has been ordered against a senior police officer for allegedly torturing his maid servant - a girl barely nine-years-old.
Janata Mirdha says every time her master, deputy inspector general of police Basudev Bag, got angry, he would beat her up. Friday was worse than usual. And so on Saturday, she fled.
When locals took her to the police station, the police initially refused to register a case against the officer. The locals then gheroed the police station, forced the DIG to come there and a case was filed.
The girl is now in a government home in Howrah.
The West Bengal government has now ordered a departmental probe against the police officer. Janata has been kept at a government home in Liluah.
