Ruckus in Lok Sabha Over Release of Kashmiri Separatist: Highlights
New Delhi:

The Opposition came together to take on the government in both houses of Parliament over the release of Kashmiri separatist Masarat Alam. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in the Lok Sabha on the issue, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervening in the face of Opposition protests.

 

Here are the highlights of what Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said:

  • This is an issue of security. This government will never compromise on issues of public safety and public security.
  • We have received report from Jammu and Kashmir government.
  • Since 1995, 27 criminal cases have been filed against Alam.
  • These cases include conspiracy and sedition.
  • Jammu and Kashmir government report says Alam has got bail in all 27 cases.
  • We are not entirely satisfied with the state home department report and have sought some clarifications.
  • We have taken this matter very seriously and will issue a strict avisory if needed, after clarification is recieved from the state government.
     

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervenes in Lok Sabha:

  • This has not been done with the Centre's knowledge.
  • No intimaton of this was given to the Centre.
  • I also lend my voice to the outrage that has been displayed in this House and across the country.
  • Want to assure the country that Government will not tolerate any action which harms the unity of the nation.
  • We have sacrificed Shyama Prasad  Mukherjee for this cause so please do not give us lessons on patriotism.
  • I assure the House and the Nation that this government will not accept or compromise on the issue of the country's integrity and security.
  • This anger is not about any party or this bench or that bench. It is about the Nation.
