Haryana Traders Appeal To Jats To Hold Peaceful Agitation

Chandigarh: The business community in Haryana which faced massive financial loss during the Jat quota agitation in February this year today appealed to Jats to hold a peaceful protest in support of their demands.

"We appeal to Jat leaders that they should keep their agitation peaceful and there should not be any kind of disorder so that nobody should face any loss," Haryana Pradesh Beopar Mandal, President Bajrang Dass Garg said.

Given the security arrangements put in place by the state government ahead of the proposed agitation by Jats from on Sunday, traders feel that there is not going to be any incident of violence or arson as witnessed during previous pro-quota Jat stir in February this year.

"We do not feel that there is going to be any violent incident taking place this time," Mr Garg said, adding that the government has made elaborate security arrangements for maintaining law and order in the state.

"Moreover, Jats will also hold most of their protests in rural areas," he said.

The Trading community also appealed to the BJP-led state government to hold talks with Jat leaders in order to resolve their issues. "It is the job of the government to hold parleys with Jat leaders and address their issues at the earliest," Mr Garg said.

Ahead of the proposed Jat quota agitation from Sunday, security arrangements in Haryana have been tightened with the deployment of 48 companies of paramilitary forces.

Jat leaders had given a call to resume stir, demanding quota and cancellation of cases against the community leaders registered during the February stir.

During the Jat agitation in February, the business community in Haryana had suffered massive financial loss as several shops belonging to non-Jats were looted and burnt by protestors.
