Gujarat: Techie turns cowboy

Halol: Dream a dream, and if you really put your mind to it, you can make it a reality. Amrish Patel was an engineer, who decided it was time to do something different. He gave up his job and took up something completely different.

Amrish is an electronics engineer by education. Till six months ago, he ran a successful IT business. He sensed opportunity in the dairy farming, decided to invest his own money, and set-up his own brand of milk, Zeal!

"The IT sector is quiet developed in the country. It is time this traditional sector like dairy farming is developed. It has to be a mix of automation and traditional methods. I realised that we are still to achieve those levels in this sector and that's why I decided to take the plunge," says Amrish.

His farm has about 800 Holestin Friesian hybrid cows, imported, and the technology is from Ireland.

In the farm, the milk is extracted through automation process with the help of clusters, and then the collection carried out through automation and then packaged and sold in the market.

The switch from Information Technology to dairy technology has been encouraging.

Today Amrish distributes around 8000 liters of milk in Vadodara with plans to expand to other metros.

"Right now we are distributing in Vadodara. We will be targeting Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai and then Delhi eventually," says Amrish.

For now Amrish is living his dream, one day at a time.
