Mumbai:

Maharashtra on Monday reported 11,015 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking its tally to 6,93,398, while 212 more patients succumbed to the infection, 40 of them in Pune city, said a state health department official.

Maharashtra on August 17 had crossed the mark of six lakh COVID-19 cases and is expected to touch the grim milestone of seven lakh infections on Tuesday.

The state also reported 212 fresh deaths, taking the count to 22,465, he said.

Also, 14,219 people were discharged, pushing up the number of recoveries beyond the five lakh-mark at 5,02,490, the official said, adding the state now has 1,68,126 active cases.

Mumbai reported 743 new cases and 20 deaths, taking its count to 1,37,096 and the count to 7,442. The number of active cases in Mumbai stood at 18,267, he added.

Pune city reported 1,107 cases along with 40 deaths, taking the tally to 90,257 and the count to 2,345, the official said.

So far, 36,63,488 people have been tested in the state.

Of the 212 deaths reported in Maharashtra, 164 had taken place in the last 48 hours and 19 in the last one week.

The remaining 29 deaths took place before the last week but were added in Monday's data, the official said.

The Thane division, which consists of Mumbai city as well, reported 2,058 new cases of COVID-19 taking the total to 3,11,066, while the death count rose to 12,279.

The Nashik division has 80,879 cases and 2,008 deaths.

The number of cases in the Pune division stood at 1,79,712 and the deaths at 4,758.

The Kolhapur division has reported 31,942 cases and 928 deaths so far and the Aurangabad division 28,290 cases and 819 deaths.

The Latur division has reported 21,353 cases and 619 deaths till date and the Akola division 14,775 cases and 414 deaths.

The Nagpur division has recorded 24,728 cases and 574 deaths so far.

As many as 653 people from other states have been treated in Maharashtra, including 66 who died, the official said.

There are 12,44,024 people under home quarantine while 33,922 are under institutional quarantine, he said.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 6,93,398, new cases 11,015, deaths 22,465, discharged 5,02,490, active cases 1,68,126, people tested so far 36,63,488.
