Patna: After 16 years, S Sudhakar Reddy is now the new general secretary of Communist Party of India(CPI), replacing A B Bardhan who held the post since 1997.

CPI spokesman Kumar Atul Anjaan told PTI that the national council of the party met and elected unopposed S Sudhakar Reddy as its national general secretary.

The national council also elected eight others as members of central secretariat of the party, Anjaan said.
