Every year, India Inc looks forward to this but it's a first for the country's top public sector executives.
25 CEOs from Central Public Sector Enterprises or CPSEs will be calling on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today to discuss the state of public sector units in the country.
"The meeting will give the opportunity to the Captains of Public Sector Enterprises to convey their views to the Prime Minister on several key issues like autonomy and empowerment of the Public Sector Enterprises, plans on their disinvestments, improvement in their MoU system, flexibility to the boards of CPSEs, professionalisation of boards of CPSEs, future investment plans and capital expenditure as well as their plan to go international etc,"says an official in the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The delegation will be led by Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel. The meeting, sources say, is Mr Patel's brainchild after complaints from senior PSU officials who say they are rarely consulted before taking major decisions such as disinvestment.
However, this year, 248 CPSEs reached a high with over 6 lakh 60,000 crore of investment and the turnover too was equally impressive at 14 lakh 73,000 crore.
And with a market capitalisation that's nearly 20 per cent of the Bombay Stock Exchange, it's clear that PSU heads want to have their say.
