How to manage recurrent viral infections in a child?
Question
My son is 2 years old and weighs 10 kg. He has viral fever last month, which lasted for 10 days. Doctors said that it was an acute viral infection. He was admitted to the hospital and treated with IV fluids and antibiotics. After one month, he has again caught cold, cough and fever with wheezing. He used to have wheezing whenever he got cold, which recurs every month. I am giving him paracetamol and antibiotics again. Is it safe to have cold and fever within one month of discharging from the hospital?

Many babies in this season would get recurrent viral infections. You can't prevent them, however these episodes reduce as the child grows. It appears from your description that your child is prone to respiratory allergy, these episodes would require antihistamines and may be bronchodilators and not every episode would need antibiotics. I am sure your paediatrician will be able to help you.
