Today's big releases: Raanjhanaa and World War Z

It is romance versus horror at the box office today with Raanjhanaa and World War Z up for release.

Highlights

  • Today, Dhanush will be romancing Sonam in Raanjhanaa and Brad Pitt will be fighting zombies in World War Z.
  • Raanjhanaa, directed by Tanu Weds Manu director Anand L Rai, is a romantic drama starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in the lead, with Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar playing pivotal roles.
  • Raanjhanaa marks the Bollywood debut of Southern star Dhanush. Dhanush, married to Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya, begs off comparisons with his famous father-in-law.
  • "I grew up watching his films and therefore there might be his influence on me, but I don't like to be compared with him," said Dhanush. "He is a legend and I'm only 26 films old. How can you possibly compare me with him," he said.
  • Dhanush also found dubbing for the film difficult. "Dubbing for Raanjhanaa. (I'm) finding it quite tough. (I) hope I can live up to your expectations. (I) will give my best," posted Dhanush on his Twitter page.
  • The story revolves around Kundan (Dhanush), a Benarasi boy, in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor). Despite the language block, Dhanush says playing a North Indian romeo wasn't all that difficult. "Playing a Benarasi boy was no different. Boys in Madurai are the same and, honestly, there's only one way boys know how to woo girls," the actor told NDTV.
  • Praising her co-star Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor said only he has the 'innocence' to play the lead in Raanjhanaa. "I think only Dhanush can become Raanjhanaa. He has got the innocence. I think there is nobody who has that spirit that is as clean (as his) over here (Bollywood)," said the 27-year-old in an interview.
  • Also releasing today is apocalyptic horror film World War Z, which is directed by Marc Forster.
  • The film features Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and Daniella Kertesz in the lead. Based on Max Brook's horror novel 'World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War', the film features Pitt's character in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic.
  • Brad Pitt has also revealed that his 11-year-old son Maddox has a cameo appearance in the film.
  • Other films which will release today are romantic thriller Shortcut Romeo, directed and produced by Susi Ganeshan, which features Neil Nitin Mukesh in the title role with Puja Gupta as his love interest and Ameesha Patel in a negative role.
  • Action thriller Enemmy directed by Ashu Trikha and starring Mithun Chakraborty, Sunil Shetty, Mahakshay Chakraborty, Kay Kay Menon, Johnny Lever Mahesh Manjrekar and Yuvika Chaudhary is out today as well.
  • And last but not the least, there's Hollywood's 3D computer-animated comedy film Monsters University.
