Coronavirus: Bihar To Promote Class 5 And 8 Students Without Exam
Bihar Education Department, in a meeting held on April 8, has decided to promote all students in class 5 and class 8 without annual examinations.
Bihar Education Department, in a meeting held on April 8, has decided to promote all students in class 5 and class 8 without annual examinations. The decision was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The decision to promote students has been taken in light of the schools being closed as a preventive measure for COVID-19 containment.
Bihar Board has already released the result for intermediate board exams. The result declaration could be possible as the board had concluded the examinations in February and was done with the evaluation process before the country was put in a lockdown.
The evaluation process for matric exam, however, is not over yet and hence class 10 students in the state will have to wait some more for their result.
Bihar is not the only state to promote students to the next class without examinations. State Boards across the country, in past few days, have announced their decision to promote students in middle school and/or class 9 and class 11 without annual examinations.
CBSE too, upon directions from Education Ministry, directed all affiliated schools to promote students in class 1-8 to the next class/grade without examinations. Students in class 9 and 11 will be promoted on the basis of internal assessments of school including projects, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far.
Meanwhile, there is no certainty on when the schools will re-open. Schools have taken to online resources for teaching and assessment. However, internet connectivity issues have proved to be a huge hindrance in learning through digital methods.
