Love-birds tie knot at police station

Rourkela: Their marriage had an unusual venue -- a police station.

Twenty-two-year-old Soma Oram, the bridegroom, and Padma (19) had to ask for police intervention after their parents opposed their marriage.

The couple exchanged marriage vows in a police station in Sector-3 here on Monday. Their parents also attended the ceremony after a women's police team led by Inspector-in-charge Gurubari Hemrm succeeded in convincing them.

Residents of Pograbahal village near here, Soma and Padma, who fell in love with each other about three years ago, had even eloped away a month ago as their parents opposed the proposal.

They, however, returned to their village on December 3 to seek approval of their marriage again, to which their parents refused.
