Jesus and Mary Convent accused of driving students to suicide

Jesus and Mary Convent accused of driving students to suicide
Shimla: A week after two young girls were found dead near a cliff in Sanjauli, the police in Shimla has filed a case against the Jesus and Mary Convent, for  driving the Class 6 students to suicide.

The police had first said that the girls appeared to have been run over. But their parents said that a teacher had been torturing and harassing them. The teacher has been on leave since the students died.

The deaths have outraged local residents who have conducted protest marches and candlelight vigils demanding action against the school's management.

Yesterday, the school's management asked for a judicial inquiry. "The whole school is aggrieved and distressed. We are ready for any inquiry into it, even a judicial probe," Sister Shyma Jose, principal of Convent of Jesus and Mary, told reporters.

She said that the girls had been caught passing notes to each other during a test last Monday. They were found dead later that day.
