Fire breaks out at Rajaji park

Dehradun: A major fire broke out in the jungles of Rajaji National Park at Haridwar area destroying scores of trees on Friday.

However, there were no immediate reports of any casualty in the area.

Uttarakhand Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R B S Rawat told PTI that the fire broke out this evening near the Chandi temple area with at least one dozen fire tenders being pressed into service to extinguish the blaze.

An alert has been sounded since the Kumbh area is also not very far away from where the blaze is being seen. Senior police officials and administration officials have rushed to the spot to supervise the fire extinguish operation.

The Rajaji Park is spread over an area of 820 sq km and is a home for 23 species of mammals and 315 species of birds.

The park is known for its Asian elephants, panthers, bears, Sambars and wild boars.
