Drunk Delhi Jal Board employee opens fire, injures three

New Delhi: A drunk Delhi Jal Board (DJB) employee allegedly opened fire when he was prevented from entering a building in a redlight area in central Delhi on Sunday, leaving three persons injured.

Kanta Prasad, employed with the Delhi Jal Board, had gone to the redlight area on the G B Road around noon, a senior police official said.

"He was drunk. When he tried to enter one of the buildings, three persons prevented him from doing so as he was drunk," the official said.

An argument ensued between the trio -- Ram Babu, Rishal and Badri -- and him and an enraged Prasad pulled out his licensed revolver and fired at them, the official said.

Ram Babu, Rishal and Badri suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors said their condition was stable.

Prasad, hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, was arrested from the spot and his revolver has been confiscated.

He got the license for the firearm from Bulandshahr.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
