Volkswagen India has axed the manual transmission variants of the Virtus and Taigun with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine in the Indian market. With the change in place, the sedan and the SUV are now only available with a seven-speed DSG transmission. Earlier, the engine was available with the option of a six-speed manual transmission, which also made the cars more accessible in terms of pricing.
Before the removal of the manual options from the lineup, the entry price was Rs 17.09 lakh for the Virtus 1.5 TSI manual and Rs 17.04 lakh for the Taigun. With the 6-speed manual transmission no longer an option, the 1.5 TSI variants of Virtus and Taigun exclusively feature the 7-speed DSG transmission.

The GT Plus Sport DCT models of the Virtus and Taigun are priced at Rs 19 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh, respectively. Both the manual and DCT variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque at its peak performance.

Volkswagen's choice to eliminate the manual option for the 1.5 TSI engine mirrors a similar action taken by Skoda with the Slavia and Kushaq in September 2024.
Customers seeking a manual transmission can still find it in the 1.0-litre TSI variants of the Virtus and Taigun. This engine remains available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, generating 115 hp and 178 Nm. The starting prices for the 1.0-litre TSI variants of the Virtus and Taigun are Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 10.58 lakh, respectively.
