Clear images of the production-spec Volkswagen ID Polo EV have emerged online, offering the first detailed look at the model prior to its global debut scheduled for May. The compact electric hatchback builds directly on the 2023 ID.2all concept, which previewed Volkswagen's affordable EV plans. Earlier prototypes appeared under heavy camouflage at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, but these leaks reveal the near-final design without disguise.

The exterior retains much of the concept's character, including slim LED headlights flanking a sealed-off front section and an illuminated VW roundel. Subtle updates appear in the bumper's grille area and the shape of the outside rear-view mirrors, now more conventional. Rear door handles stay flush on the C-pillars for aerodynamics.

Official specs list the ID Polo at 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide, 1,530 mm high, and with a 2,600 mm wheelbase, dimensions that exceed the sub-4-metre India-spec Polo discontinued in 2022.

A sportier ID Polo GTI also features in the images, distinguished by a honeycomb front grille, vertical daytime running lamps, a red accent stripe, and GTI badges. Inside, the cabin pairs a 10.25-inch digital driver's display with a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Volkswagen emphasises physical controls under its 'Pure Positive' philosophy, including buttons for key functions, a centre-console rotary dial for media, and steering-wheel controls for assistance systems. Retro display themes nod to classics like the Mk1 Golf.

Volkswagen had revealed the near-production-ready Polo EV's interior earlier in January. It gets a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 13-inch touchscreen. The carmaker has also added customisable display themes, including a retro mode inspired by the Golf Mk1, with an analogue-style instrument display and a tape deck-style animation on the touchscreen.

Power comes from the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive. Battery choices include 38kWh and 56kWh packs, the latter promising up to 451km of range alongside 435 litres of boot space. DC fast charging peaks at 125kW, while the GTI variant boosts output to 226hp.
