- Suzuki Jimny EV prototype was spotted in snowy conditions undergoing cold-weather testing
- The EV retains the boxy silhouette and upright stance of the current petrol Jimny
- Front grille is largely blanked off, typical of electric vehicles without large air intakes
A heavily camouflaged prototype of the Suzuki Jimny EV has been spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in snowy conditions. Two camouflaged Jimny-style test mules were seen together, suggesting active development is underway, though Suzuki has not made any official announcement about the vehicle.
Visually, the Suzuki Jimny EV prototype stays close to the current Jimny's well-known silhouette. The boxy body, short overhangs, near-vertical windscreen, and upright stance all appear to be carried over. The most notable visual difference observed in the Jimny EV test mule is at the front, the grille area appears largely blanked off, which is typical for electric vehicles that do not require large air intakes for engine cooling. Slim horizontal lighting elements are visible high on the front fascia, and lower openings in the front bumper are also present, likely for cooling the battery and electrical components.

One of the more significant observations from the Suzuki Jimny EV's spy shots is that the prototype appears to use a solid front axle. This is an important detail because most electric SUVs in the compact segment use independent suspension, which prioritises ride comfort and urban usability over serious off-road performance. If the production version retains a solid axle, it would give the Jimny EV a clear advantage in rough terrain over most of its electric rivals.

Suzuki has not confirmed any powertrain specifications for the electric Jimny. The current petrol model uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 104.8 hp, paired with a 4WD system and a low-range transfer case. Whether the EV will carry over a similar 4WD layout, possibly using a dual-motor setup remains to be seen. Suzuki's e-Vitara already uses an electric AWD system, though it is unclear if that hardware will be adapted for the Jimny.
At this stage, Suzuki has not confirmed a production version of the Jimny EV, nor any information regarding markets or launch timing. Based on the spy shots, development appears to be at an active stage, with low-grip condition testing pointing toward a focus on off-road capability rather than a purely urban electric product.
