Piaggio India has shielded the Aprilia 457 range from a price increase despite a revision in GST (Goods and Services Tax) rates on large two-wheelers. The move comes in response to the revised structure that has raised GST rates on motorcycles with an engine capacity of over 350 cc by 40 percent. It comes ahead of the festive season as the revised GST rates take effect from 22 September.
For the Aprilia Tuono 457, Piaggio has opted to take on the complete GST impact, maintaining its ex-showroom pricing in Maharashtra at Rs 3,95,000. At the same time, the company is offering additional benefits exceeding Rs 35,000 on the Aprilia RS457. This includes a direct absorption of Rs 15,000 due to the GST increase and a complimentary quick shifter valued at Rs 20,500, provided with each RS457. Consequently, the RS457 is now priced at Rs 4,35,000 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra), which includes the additional accessory.

As mentioned earlier, the decision followed the 56th GST Council meeting, led by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on September 3. The Council introduced extensive reforms aimed at making mobility and agricultural machinery more affordable. Starting September 22, GST rates on small cars, motorcycles up to 350cc, three-wheelers, and various agricultural equipment have been reduced, while luxury vehicles, large SUVs, and motorcycles over 350cc are now classified under the 40 percent tax bracket.
While all cars and two-wheelers below 350cc are now more affordable, bikes exceeding 350cc will see increased prices as they fall into the 40 percent category. However, manufacturers are not raising prices; instead, they are absorbing the impact of the hike. Following the same pattern, Piaggio aims to keep Aprilia's appeal intact for consumers looking for a motorcycle in the mid-capacity performance segment.
