23-Year-Old Hacked To Death Allegedly By Man She Rejected, Attacker In ICU

Dhanya, 23, was hacked to death in Tamil Nadu allegedly by a man she had rejected

Coimbatore: A 23-year-old old woman was hacked to death at her house in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on Wednesday night allegedly by a man she had turned down.

S Dhanya, who was already engaged to be married, was alone at home when Jahir allegedly entered through the rear door of the house and attacked her with a sickle after she refused his advances. Her parents had gone out for shopping and had locked the front door, police said.

The 27-year-old accused allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after killing Dhanya. He has been admitted to an ICU ward of a hospital in Palakkad.

Police said the accused, a mill worker, was a family friend and had known Dhanya for over a year. However, Dhanya's parents rejected Jahir's proposal of marrying their daughter.

"We've registered a case of murder. We have not arrested him yet as he's in the ICU (intensive care unit)".
