Remember that scene in Steve Martin's Pink Panther in which Inspector Jacques Clouseau taps on a giant globe, accidentally sets it loose from its stand and causes a series of accidents as the globe rolls through the city's streets ? A similar thing happened in China recently, except it wasn't a globe set loose but a giant inflatable moon that terrorized the city.

A video tweeted by China Xinhua News on September 14 shows a huge moon balloon rolling down busy streets of Fuzhou city in peak traffic, making for a rather weird sight.

The moon lookalike was actually meant as decoration for the city's mid-autumn festival. The balloon reportedly broke loose as typhoon Meranti was about to hit the country and caused some serious traffic issues on the roads.

Can you imagine reaching work late and having to offer this as an excuse - sorry, I got stuck in traffic because the moon was in my way.

Take a look at the video below. It's as bizarre as it sounds.

Typhoon Meranti made landfall a day after the incident on September 15. It is the strongest typhoon to hit China in 70 years, reports AFP. The storm, with torrential rains and winds up to 170 kilometres per hour, has resulted in 28 deaths so far. It has caused several power outages and traffic issues in the country as well.
