What is a Deemed University?
NDTV Correspondent, Tuesday January 19, 2010, New Delhi
Deemed University is a status granted to high performing institutes and departments of various universities by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on the advice of the university grants commission (UGC).

The Deemed University status allows not just full autonomy in setting course work and syllabus, but also allows it to set its own guidelines for the admissions and fees

Parent universities may award degrees but cannot control the administration of these deemed universities, many of whom also award degrees under their own name.

Most Deemed Universities are affiliated to the UGC or the All India Council of Technical Education and are known and recognized for their quality education.
