Sugar prices are a collective decision: Sharad Pawar
NDTV Correspondent, Monday January 25, 2010, New Delhi

The blame game on the rising prices on vegetables, pulses and sugar continues. It has already lead to strained relations between Congress and its ally the NCP, as Union Agriculture Minister and the NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

There is also a war of words on between Pawar and state chief ministers, especially Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh.

But again Pawar refused to take the sole blame on sugar saying commodity prices were a collective responsibility of the Cabinet in consultation with the Prime Minister.

Sharad Pawar has also been charged with deliberately stalling the import of raw sugar to promote the interests of the sugar barons in a petition filed by an NGO, which will be heard in the Supreme Court today.

It is really strange that opposition parties have not taken up the 'food inflation' issue seriously and mobile the people against the government lead by an economist PM,who has failed miserably to contain inflation. Inflation is hitting the common man for months, and none of the polilical parties have come out on the street to demonstrate. If any opposition party call for a nation wide protest, voluntarily majority of the people will support.

When Loksabha Election comes every thing becomes cheap suddenly but when the election is over everything becomes costlier then the the blame game starts which is just to fool the public. Its an artificial inflation that makes business men to earn so that they can fund for election. Every essetial goods were so cheap in the Janata Party rule when Morarji Bhai Desai was the Prime minister. People should elect capable candidates to run the country.
