Lathi charge at Jawaharlal Nehru University
NDTV Correspondent, Sunday November 22, 2009, New Delhi
The students of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and police clashed late on Sunday night after some outsiders molested a girl on campus.

Four young men forcefully entered the university campus and started harassing  a few girls after which JNU students protested and blocked the main gate.

After a six-hour stand off, the police used tear gas and lathicharge to disperse the students who were not allowing the police to take away the alleged molesters. Later, the men were caught and handed over to the police.

it is indeed a cause of concern and getting worried and pondering over not only by the student fraternity but also by the administration which has almost failed in ensuring and keeping up the safe, silent and calm environment in the university.........as it has turned into a hang out zone where guys and gals flock to, to have a blast of all kind....we dont object to it as long as these blasts of self enjoyment is under the ambits and limits of civilized notions of the society.....but if it breaches that mark.......then we peaceful minds by choice will be forced to show the face of ours which is as violent.fuming and full of angst and fury as any dormant volcano in the world turning active burning and flattening anything coming in its way.......

jnu is supposedly the safest campus, at least in india. its quite a shame on the part of police to let out such a violence on the peaceful protest of students. The students only demanded a public apology as we were pretty sure that an FIR drama can do miracles, as the accused only said when the security tried for police that "call tehm..they will release us i two minutes". What safety we have over here when the saw called guardians of law made such a shameful deed, only bcs the accused have this 'rich vip ' tags. and i wonder if they were police or magicians, when the 'culprits' father only very arrogantly procliamed that his so has the licence to use his gun, our police turned to to be magicians made it a cig lighter and toy guns..hats off to them !!!
