26/11 case: Kasab confesses in court
NDTV Correspondent, Monday July 20, 2009, Mumbai

In a sudden move, Ajmal Amir Kasab on Monday confessed to his involvement in the Mumbai attacks. The main accused in the case narrated the entire sequence of events that led to the terror strikes on November 26, 2008.

The lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks named Lashkar-e-Toiba's Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi as the mastermind behind the attacks. He also named Abu Hamza as one of the Pakistani handlers.

The Mumbai attacks had claimed more than 150 lives and left many injured.

Kasab is believed to be a resident of Faridkot in Pakistan. He is currently lodged in Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.

In his confessional statement, Kasab said he and other terrorists were brought from Karachi, led by Lakhvi and Abu Hamza.

Kasab's defence was taken by surprise at his admission.

Earlier, a magazine report claimed Kasab was taught combat techniques by the Pakistan Marines after being extensively trained by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) at its various camps.

The magazine quoted Kasab's interrogation report by an intelligence agency.

What happened in court:

Kasab entered the court on Monday and started speaking without consulting his lawyers.

He told the court, "Sir mujhe apna gunaah kabool hai (I confess to my crime)."

He admitted to attacks at Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus and nearby Cama hospital in south Mumbai.

Not only his own lawyers, even the prosecution was taken by surprise with Kasab's confession.

Kasab finally asked the court to end the trial and punish him, as he has confessed.

I truly feel what happened in Mumbai on that day is henious.I am no supporter of Kasab or any other terrorist. But to stone him or kill him in public is nothing but showing our part of terrorists. instead we should see to it that he gets the maximum punishment that can be given in our courts. If u have separate laws for terrorists, their would a lot of chaos as India as a country has seen many fake encounters, agitations against policemen, and many of them making the best use of these laws against a normal civilian. infact the terrorists aren't scared of any laws, if they were they would have never bothered to become a terrorist in the first case. so my point is it really doesn't bother much about this point. What i would suggest is make the best to see that everyone who commits a crime be tried to the best level possible way under the law and let's be truthful to ourselves in doing so, for the ppl who aren't between us today aren't there because of them.

To all those who said Kasab should be Stoned to death and hanged publicaly etc..Please note we are the citizen of largest democracy in the world lets have faith in our system of goverance. Secondly If he had been stoned to death and hanged publicaly the Intellegencies Agencies which has already taken black and blue from the series of terrorsit attacks would not have able to decode the future attacks and could not have dismantled the terror network. Note he is the presently an asset for all the terrorist investigations say from ranging from Hijack incident in Khandhar to till Mumbai 26/11. Even now When I see this news in media my blood boils nodoubt but second thought say we are zeroing the all the susupects..
