Won't accept Amar Singh's resignation: Mulayam Singh

Kolkata: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh said on Sunday that Amar Singh's resignation will not be accepted.

"Amar Singh has resigned from the post of general secretary and from the parliamentary board. But our relationship is such that I will not accept his resignation. One can't sever these ties so easily. This will soon be resolved," he said.

Tension is mounting within the Samajwadi Party (SP). After Amar Singh quit the party, its general secretary Sanjay Dutt also resigned on Saturday.

Bhojpuri star Manoj Tewari has also said he will quit if Amar Singh doesn't go back to the party.

Addressing the media in Mumbai after his resignation, the actor-turned-politician said that he is disappointed at the behaviour of some party members.

At the press conference, Dutt clearly declared that he "will remain with SP only as long as Amar Singh is in the party". He described Amar Singh as his elder brother.

"If Amar Singh tells me to quit politics, I will," he added.

Amar Singh, however, has refused to budge despite Mulayam's pacificatory moves.
