Kashmir's Bloody Sunday: 8 killed, valley burns

Kashmir: Fresh violence has erupted in Kashmir and there is tension across the valley. At least 8 people have been killed today in separate incidents of violence.

In the latest clash between protesters and security forces, the Khrew police station on the outskirts of Srinagar was set on fire. According to NDTV's sources, atleast 4 protesters were killed in the blast that resulted. 20 people have been injured.

Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has appealed for peace. Abdullah asked religious and political leaders stop the bloodshed and help the government restore normalcy.  He also appealed to the people not to target government property.

In New Delhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh convened a meeting ofCabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to discuss the Kashmir situation.  (Read: CCS discusses Kashmir situation)

Earlier in the day, three people were killed and four others injured in Pampore. Another  a young woman, from Khrew,  died of her injuries in hospital

The police sources, said their personnel who are present in Pampore, came under heavy stone throwing and the mob attacked an ambulance.

One local police official claimed that a fire came from the mob. However, locals allege indiscriminate firing by the police.Protesters also set the Tehsil office and Tehsildar's house on fire in Pampore.

Clashes also broke out in Baramulla between the people and the security forces.People defied the curfew in north Kashmir town and Pampore and took to the streets.
Around 8000 people have blocked the NHA1 at Galander on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
