Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has launched the country's first digital road accident data management system which will help make the state's transport system safer through smarter analytics and response.

Police and government officials on Monday were given tablets that will let them record accident data more rapidly and accurately.

This data will then be scientifically analysed to identify accident-prone spots, reasons for accidents and remedial actions.

"With the help of this application, all the line departments including transport, public works and police departments could ensure road safety in a coordinated manner," State transport minister GS Bali said.

The venture is part of the State Roads Project funded by the World Bank and has been executed by British-firm Transport Research Laboratory and India's Experion Technologies.

Mr Bali also said government was considering the creation of a separate fund for road accident victims in the hill state.
