Cop suspended for 'stealing' mobile, cash from accident victim

Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu: A police sub-inspector in Tamil Nadu has been suspended for allegedly stealing a mobile phone and Rs 40,000 from a fatal victim of a road accident in the district when he was on highway patrol duty.

Special Sub Inspector Ramaswamy, now posted in the Armed Police Wing, was suspended by District Superintendent of Police Prabhakaran who had conducted an inquiry after the relatives of the deceased, Nagarajan, lodged a complaint about the missing cash and mobile phone, police said on Tuesday.

Nagarajan was on his way to see his pregnant wife at Melaoddanpiram near Sattur in the district when the van in which he was travelling met with an accident and he died.
