'They Kidnapped My Son, Threatened to Kill Us,' Says Father of 19-Year-Old Acid Attack Survivor

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly molested and attacked with acid by the son of a local Samajwadi Party worker in UP's Moradabad

Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: The family of a 19-year-old college student from Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad has accused the son of a local Samajwadi Party worker of pressuring them into retracting her allegation that he threw acid on her when she resisted his attempts to molest her.

The girl had initially alleged that Mani Bishnoi, a lawyer, tried to sexually assault her at her house on January 1, and then threw acid on her resulting in burn injuries to her face and body. Two days later, she went back on her complaint while appearing before a magistrate, adding that the acid fell on her by mistake. Her family alleged that the
accused had kidnapped her 10-year-old brother, forcing her to withdraw her initial statement made to the police.

"They kidnapped my son, threatened to kill me and my family if we gave a statement against them," the girl's father alleged.

Yesterday, the family approached senior police officials after their son returned home a couple of days ago.

"I have instructed the concerned police station to examine both the statements and establish the truth. Strict action will be taken against the accused and all help will be extended to the family," said Luv Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Moradabad.

The accused is yet to be arrested.
