UK Updates Travel Advisory After Delhi Red Fort Blast. Check Restricted Areas

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom has updated its travel advice for British nationals visiting India, in response to a deadly car explosion near the historic Red Fort (Lal Qila) in New Delhi. The advisory, still current as of November 12 and last updated on November 10, states: "There has been an explosion at the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station, New Delhi. If you're in the immediate area, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media."

It further emphasises: "Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)."

What The UK Travel Advisory Says: Key Regions And Warnings

The FCDO travel guidance highlights several areas of concern:

• India-Pakistan border area: FCDO advises against all travel within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border. The Wagah-Attari border crossing is closed.
• Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir: All travel is advised against in Jammu & Kashmir (including Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Srinagar and the Jammu-Srinagar national highway), except for travel by air to and from the city of Jammu, and travel within the city of Jammu.
• Manipur: The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Manipur (including its capital Imphal), citing ongoing curfews and restrictions following ethnic violence in 2023 and intermittent unrest continuing into 2025.

These warnings form part of the "Warnings and insurance" section of the official guidance.

About The Red Fort Blast

The Red Fort blast took place at 6.50 pm on Monday, gutting several vehicles, the footage provided by the CCTV control room said. CCTV footage of the bomb blast triggered by a slow-moving car near the Red Fort in the Capital surfaced on Wednesday. The terror attack has claimed nine lives so far.

Indian authorities have heightened security across the capital, with heavy vehicle checks at all entry and exit points of Delhi, deployment of paramilitary forces and police operations underway.
