- Istanbul Airport won Platinum for punctuality among airports handling 84 million passengers annually
- Qatar Airways earned Platinum for airlines with 84.42% on-time performance in 198,303 flights
- Santiago, Tocumen, and Guayaquil airports topped large, medium, and small airport punctuality categories
In an era when flight delays have become common and no longer surprising, consistent punctuality deserves extra appreciation. From staffing shortages and extreme weather events to geopolitical conflicts that restrict airspace, airlines and airports are navigating more operational challenges than ever before. With an estimated 38.9 million international flights operating worldwide in 2025, as reported by CNN, keeping services on schedule has become an intricate balancing act. Against this backdrop, aviation analytics firm Cirium has released its annual On-Time Performance Review 2025, highlighting airlines and airports that managed to stay reliably on track - and in doing so, earned higher passenger satisfaction and significant cost efficiencies.
Cirium's 2025 review recognised 12 airports and airlines worldwide that excelled in punctuality across different categories.
World's 4 Most Punctual Airports
Platinum Winner: Istanbul Airport
Istanbul Airport emerged as the overall Platinum Winner. One of the world's busiest mega-hubs, it handles over 84 million passengers annually and connects more than 330 destinations worldwide. Positioned at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, even minor delays have the potential to ripple across continents. Cirium noted that the airport demonstrated that large-scale operations can coexist with consistency and control.
Large Airport: Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport
Chile's Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport topped the large airport category, recording an on-time performance rate of 87.04 per cent across 153,326 flights serving 68 routes.
Medium Airport: Tocumen International Airport
Panama City's Tocumen International Airport led the medium airport category, maintaining 93.34 per cent punctuality across 148,065 flights on 96 routes. Often referred to as the "Hub of the Americas", the airport remains a key connector between North and South America.
Small Airport: Guayaquil Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport
Guayaquil Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport in Ecuador was named the most punctual small airport, achieving 91.47 per cent punctuality across 34,068 flights serving 19 routes.
World's 8 Most Punctual Airlines
Platinum Winner: Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways was named the Platinum Winner among airlines. The carrier delivered 84.42 per cent on-time performance across 198,303 flights, improving on its 2024 results. Cirium said Qatar Airways successfully protected key connection flows and adapted operations during disruptions caused by airspace restrictions, weather volatility and aircraft availability issues.
Global Level: Aeromexico
Aeromexico retained its position as the world's most punctual global airline for the second consecutive year, delivering 90.02 per cent punctuality across 188,859 flights.
Asia-Pacific: Philippine Airlines
Philippine Airlines topped the Asia-Pacific region with 83.12 per cent punctuality across 116,268 flights. Cirium noted that this achievement was particularly impressive given frequent congestion at the airline's home base, Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
North America: Delta Air Lines
In North America, Delta Air Lines claimed the top spot with 80.9 per cent punctuality across more than 1.8 million flights. US airlines faced repeated air traffic control system issues and a prolonged government shutdown in 2025, with Cirium describing Delta as a model of resilience during these challenges.
Europe: Iberia Express
Spain's Iberia Express was ranked Europe's most punctual airline for the third year in a row. The carrier achieved 88.94 per cent on-time performance across 37,119 flights, despite disruptions including widespread power outages across the Iberian Peninsula and a global software issue affecting its Airbus A320 fleet.
Latin America: Copa Airlines
Copa Airlines led the Latin America category, posting 90.75 per cent punctuality across 133,748 flights. Cirium described the region as one of the most dynamic in global aviation.
Middle East and Africa: FlySafair
South Africa's FlySafair emerged as the most punctual airline in the Middle East and Africa category, achieving 91.06 per cent punctuality across 62,805 flights.
Most Improved: Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic was named the Most Improved Airline of 2025. The British carrier recorded 83.45 per cent punctuality, a significant increase from 74.01 per cent in 2023.
