Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is known for its breathtaking views, snow-capped peaks and serene valleys. People walk through the blooming meadows and admire the rich flora and fauna. Now, the union territory is adding another gem for the visitors to experience the beauty of nature. The Kashmir valley is opening its doors to Bhal Padri, located in the Gandoh subdivision of Doda district. Also, a new road is being developed to easily access Bhal Padri, also known as the Valley of Flowers, for the first time. The district is known for its alpine peaks, peaceful trails and postcard-perfect views.

What Makes Bhal Padri special?

Bhal Padri is located at an altitude of about 11,000 feet above sea level. Also known as "Mini Kashmir" for its lush green hills and stunning landscapes, it is just 10 km away from Padri, the highest point on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road, which connects Jammu and Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier, there were no facilities to reach Bhal Padri due to a lack of proper road infrastructure. But now, the J&K government has made it accessible by developing a road, opening the doors for tourists. They have also constructed rooms and restaurants at Padri.

How To Reach Bhal Padri?

The government has made a 10 km stretch from Padri to Bhel Padri. The maximum of the work has been done, and only the blacktopping (final road surfacing) is pending, which will be done after August 15, once the monsoon season ends.
In addition, the government is also constructing another 7 km road, which will connect Bhel Padri to Gandoh.

  • The tourism department is developing the area for skiing and chair-car rides, which is perfect for winter and snow adventures.
  • The nearest village for tourists is Thanala, a 100 per cent tribal village, where tourists can learn about unique tribal traditions and lifestyles.
  • It is also an ideal place to witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
