Industrialist Anand Mahindra, known for his love of exploring offbeat and inspiring destinations across India, recently shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter). Despite multiple visits to Nashik in Maharashtra, he admitted he had never heard of, let alone attempted, the Mangi-Tungi trek. Posting a video of the trail, he described it as "spectacular... not just a rewarding physical journey but also a soulful experience, with ancient rock-carved idols, and a chance to see one of the tallest Jain statues: the awe-inspiring 108-ft tall Statue of Ahimsa."

Mahindra also reminded followers that some of the most unforgettable experiences can be found close to home. At the same time, he urged caution, noting that a tragic accident had recently occurred when a family walked along the fence wall of the trek path. See the full post here.

If you are inspired to take on this spiritual journey, here is what you need to know about the Mangi-Tungi trek.

What Is the Mangi-Tungi Trek?

The Mangi-Tungi trek is a spiritual climb in Maharashtra that leads to the twin peaks of Mangi and Tungi. Both peaks are revered Jain pilgrimage sites, dotted with ancient rock-cut caves and temples. The trek culminates at the Statue of Ahimsa, a 108-foot-tall Jain idol and the world's tallest Jain statue.

Mangi, standing 4,343 ft (1,324 m) above sea level, is the western peak, while Tungi, at 4,366 ft (1,331 m), forms the eastern. Together, the peaks feature numerous carvings of Jain Tirthankaras, creating a journey that combines physical endurance, cultural heritage, and spiritual energy.

Unlike forest treks, this is mainly a stair climb. Panoramic views of the Satpura range and the serene atmosphere at the summit make it an unforgettable experience.
