Five children were hospitalised after getting an electric shock while playing in Juhu on Wednesday.

The children were playing in wet mud near the fence of Rose Apartments when the incident occurred around 8.30 pm.

A live wire from a cable was touching the iron fence of the apartment complex. While playing, two kids got an electric shock when they touched the fence. The other kids, in trying to help their friends, also got jolted on the live wire.

Abdul Shahabuddin Pathan, who was passing by, heard the children scream and came to their rescue. "I managed to pull one of the kids, but the others were still stuck. So I had to use a wooden stick to set them free. They were in a critical condition. I asked others for help and we took the kids to Arogyanidhi Hospital," said Pathan.

Of the five children, the condition of four is said to be critical and they have been admitted to the ICU.

Shailesh Purobia, father of two of the kids injured, said, "We were watching TV at home when we heard the commotion outside. It was then that we learned about the incident. My children are critical and they are under observation. The culprits must be punished."

"My daughter has only now regained consciousness. But she is still in shock," said Gulshan Rajput, father of another victim. The police said they would take action against those responsible.
